Buddhism
Object 'Buddhism' belongs to the 'World Religions' theme.Connection to Judaism:
The biggest difference between Judaism and Buddhism comes down to authority and law. In Judaism, a jealous tyrant-god would impose absolute control through a strict code of laws. In Buddhism, there is no arbitrary law, instead there are principles of cause-and-effect, thus the Buddhist avoids stealing because it would make his world more miserable, whereas the Jew avoids stealing in order to placate his wrathful deity.
The whole idea of a single all-powerful creator God is conspicuously absent from Buddhism. In fact, according to Buddhism, even if the Abrahamic God is real, He will eventually die and pass, just like everything else.
Connection to Catholicism:The whole idea of a single all-powerful creator God is conspicuously absent from Buddhism. In fact, according to Buddhism, even if the Abrahamic God is real, He will eventually die and pass, just like everything else.
The only similarity between Buddhism and Catholicism is the institution of Monkhood. The two religions share having monks, but otherwise there is almost no similarity.
Connection to Protestantism:While Buddhism passively respects and admits Protestantism, the converse is not true: protestants believe that Buddhists are evil and Hellbound. There is almost nothing in common between the two religions. Protestants believe in a single eternal deity, whereas Buddhists don't even believe such a thing is possible, that the Abrahamic God (if He exists) is just another God and will eventually pass away like everything else in the universe.
Connection to Shinto:Many Japanese passively practice both Shinto and Buddhism simultaneously. The two religions are analogous to two branches of science, one of which is a direct generalization of the other.
