Planet Earth

Object 'Planet Earth' belongs to the 'Outer Space' theme.

Connection to The Sun:

The Sun's gravitational pull sets the Earth in orbit. In addition, radiation from the Sun is responsible for virtually all the usable energy on Earth, directly or indirectly. Without the Sun's warming rays, Earth would be a cold, lifeless ball of stone.

Connection to The Milky Way:

Planet Earth is only a tiny speck within the Milky Way Galaxy. It is, however, currently the only *known* place in the galaxy containing sentient life. This might change as Earth technology expands.

The Milky Way can sometimes be "seen" from the Earth, where it appears like a giant gaseous cloud.

Connection to The Moon:

The Earth's gravitational field is responsible for the Moon's orbit. In return, the moon's much smaller gravitational tug affects the Earth's tides.

Connection to Venus:

Of the other planets in our solar system, Venus most closely resembles the Earth in size, composition, and gravity. It's also Earth's neighbor in the solar system, being one of just two planets between the Earth and the Sun (the other one is Mercury). Because of the unique role it plays in the Earth skyline, from the perspective of Earth, Venus is often called the morning star or the evening star.

Connection to Mars:

Mars is the next furthest planet from the sun after Earth. If Earthlings ever colonize another planet, Mars would be the most natural first candidate for colonization.
